Alma Johnson-Hawkins joins Pierce College as VP/Student Services

Pierce welcomes Alma Johnson-Hawkins, who assumes the position of Interim Vice President of Student Services on July 1, 2012. Her appointment follows the June retirement of Joy McCaslin, who served the college for 25 years.

Johnson-Hawkins comes to Pierce from Los Angeles Mission College (LAMC) in Sylmar, where she was Vice President of Academic Affairs. She brings more than 30 years of experience as an administrator and faculty member in higher education to Pierce College.

Prior to her vice presidency at Mission College, she has served as Associate Dean of the CalWORKS program and Dean of Workforce Education and Economic Development at East Los Angeles College, and Dean of Academic Affairs at Mission College.

Johnson-Hawkins’ educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from CSUN, a master’s degree in Education and Administration from Point Loma Nazerene University in San Diego, and a master’s degree in Divinity (M.Div) from Fuller University in Pasadena.

“We look forward to her contributions to our team at Pierce,” said Pierce President Kathleen Burke-Kelly.
